Singing is “not-singing”<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There are two ways to teach people to sing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many teachers use traditional exercises. They focus on the shapes of vowels, on using specific muscles for breathing, on understanding head voice vs. chest voice, and so forth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You feel like you’re learning because there are clear-cut concepts and vocabulary. And you will<\/em> learn, eventually\u2014my voice teaching colleagues aren’t hacks. They just don’t use the most efficient method.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My approach is different: you learn to sing by “not-singing.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Singing is just a type of vocal noise, so I build from the vocal noises you already know how to make\u2014speech, mostly, but also various slides and sighs and wails. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

By tapping into your vocal instinct and intuition, we lay a powerful foundation that makes your singing easy and authentic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Singers who feel stuck in their careers generally fall into one of two categories:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. They sing like an angel but can’t connect viscerally with their audiences, or<\/li>
  2. They’re exciting as hell to watch but lack the vocal technique to maintain stamina.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Good news! Those are both the same problem: Your technique is not grounded in intention.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Because of that, when you perform you’re forced to decide\u2014usually subconsciously\u2014between focusing on your technique or on your connection with your fellow performers and the audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
